League of Women Voters of Pullman and Whitman County is sponsoring their 4th Annual Visual Arts Competition with the theme of “Native American and the USA.” This year’s art competition is designed to honor the legal, federal, and cultural relationship between Native America and the United States of America while highlighting Native resilience, sovereignty, and modern identity. The competition invites students in grades 3–12 living in Whitman County to showcase their artistic talents while learning about, honoring, and respecting the First Peoples. Participants are encouraged to reflect on the histories, cultures, and contributions of Native Americans. The LWV is a nonpartisan organization, and, as part of our civics education program this year, we seek to honor and celebrate the First Peoples while acknowledging that we now inhabit their ancestral homelands. Entries will be accepted until March 31. Go to the League’s website for more information. www.LWVPullman.org
